Go forth and multiply
Sunday, August 10th
Pastor Calvin will be the first to say that there
are a lot of gifted people in the church at UNIFOUR.
In fact, the Pastor believes they’re so talented that he has decided to set them
up in business.
Following the story lines of the Parable of the Talents found in the Book of
Matthew, UNIFOUR is backing its members in businesses with the hope that the
seed money will be returned, along with a tidy profit the church plans to put
toward its reduction of Church debt.
The project will allow UNFIOUR to raise some money to become debt free. Our
Church is growing and this project will help us get closer to building the much
needed next phase of our expansion plans.
Pastor Calvin will use the Parable of the Talents hoping the story will inspire
the CHURCH to use their own talents to meet the total.
In the parable, a wealthy landowner gave each of his servants several talents to
look after in his absence. Although we think of talents as abilities, the New
International Version of the Bible also defines talents as precious metals
thought to be worth about $1,000 each.
Two of the servants invest the talents and make profits, while the third one
buries his. When the landowner returns, he is thrilled that the two men have
multiplied his wealth, but chastised the one who didn’t trust in his abilities.
Putting the parable to the test on August 10, 2008, UNFOUR will distribute to
the congregation a total of $1,000 in $20 bills with the instructions that they
are to take the money and use it any way they could to make a profit, then
return the original $20 plus the earnings by September 8th, 2008.
This project will provide opportunity for creativity. The Church is encouraged
to come up with unique ideas. For example: You can use your money to buy yarn
for hand-knitted items; baking goods to sell; offer cleaning or yard services,
buy and resale items in the neighborhood, at work or to the family; purchase
materials to make something for sell or any other project to multiply their
talent. The possibilities are endless. People are encouraged to have fun and
raise money to reduce the church debt.
