Church History

In 1996 a small group of obedient servants of the Lord desired to fellowship with other Christians in the Catawba area.  They started by contacting Pastor Jack McConnell who was a minister from a church in Winston-Salem, NC for his assistance in starting a new church in the Hickory area.  Our first steps were to round up 20 reliable people willing to attend and support our new ministry.  Pastor Jack McConnell would come and offer his services to help us organize and set-up the church structure.  On September 15, 1996, the first service was held at Gateway Inn located on Highway 70 in Hickory NC.  There were 21 God seeking individuals who took the first step in starting Our Church.

After several weeks of worshipping together, our church was named "Unifour Christian Fellowship Church".  We also voted and elected Council Members to be the governing body of UCFC, and we wrote a set of by-laws which were to provide us with a governing structure.  At the beginning years UCFC struggled to find space for our worship services.  Leases were expensive and there weren't many adequate places available year round.  During these early years we were moving back and forth between a hotel banquet room and a rented facility located on Highway 70 West.

After four years UCFC continued to grow and we had over 100 faithful members.   Our Pastor and Council Members encouraged us to start looking for property believing that once we had a permanent place to build a new Church, God would provide a suitable temporary site for us to worship until a new Church could be constructed. During this search some property became available in Newton, NC.  We prayed and were led to purchase this property in 2001.

The property in Newton is where the Church now stands.  Included in the purchase was 7.5 acres of land, a house that now serves as our parsonage.  The house had an attached garage, which we were able to insulate, enclose and convert into a large room that was used as our original place of worship from 2001 to 2004.  We built a 4400 square foot sanctuary and fellowship hall, which we held our first service in the new sanctuary on Sunday, August 15, 2004 at 10:30am with 37 people present.  God has richly blessed His people at Unifour Christian Fellowship Church.  We envision a multi-purpose facility with a thousand person capacity worship center, including classrooms and recreational facilities.  All this built with the purpose of developing the total person.
